Journey was commissioned to write, design and manage the issue through the production and distribution process, telling the organization’s 25-year story from concept to completion.
In this turnkey project, Journey’s challenge was to compellingly capture the heartbeat of Feed The Children while respecting the publishing budget of a nonprofit organization committed to sending every dollar toward alleviating hunger.
A second challenge involved Feed The Children’s unique intermediary role: getting the needed food and supplies from point A to point B, so that someone else can do the hands-on distribution in their own community. Although Feed The Children is therefore one step removed from the children and families who receive the aid, those stories are an integral part of the organization’s larger story. So Journey tracked them down. In addition, we interviewed everyone from leadership to the organizations's faithful truck drivers.
Because neither hunger nor natural disaster nor tragedy takes a break, the real-life impact of Feed The Children continued unfolding even as the magazine faced its press deadline.
