Position Title: Custom Solutions Sales Director

Job Description:

Reader’s Digest is seeking a Custom Solutions Director who will identify and develop fresh ways to market our special sections in order to secure new advertising accounts, maintain existing business, and expand into new categories. This is a sales development position that requires a candidate with a background in advertising sales and marketing, with a proven track record for innovative promotion and communication. The ideal candidate will have excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills, able to think creatively, demonstrate effective strategic skills, generate "big ideas" and convert them into compelling proposals. 

Database driven programs coupled with in-magazine distribution, the cross selling of Reader's Digest titles, custom publishing and direct mail are all areas where resources exist to satisfy client marketing needs and objectives. Managing and growing the core pharmaceutical category by leveraging the "healthcare database" will also be an important responsibility. 

Reporting to the Publisher, Reader's Digest Magazine in New York City, the Director is expected to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with the sales team, to keep them informed of programs and initiatives.  The ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision as well as in a cross-functional team environment is essential to the success of this position. Travel as necessary into territory to prospect, develop and close business. 

Qualifications:

  • College degree preferred with four to five years successful selling experience
  • Self motivated, energetic, creative
  • Must have strong pharmaceutical industry contacts (client and agency)
  • Experience in advertising, publishing and/or media relations
  • Strong communicator/writer
  • Must possess solid negotiating skills
  • Proven track record and history of success in a consultative sales and marketing role
  • Must work well with senior sales staff, senior management and be a team player
  • Basic computer skills; comfortable with Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Publishing and direct marketing marketplace
